ESOL Training Instructor

NICE is seeking a temporary ESOL Training instructor who provides immigrant workers with English classes for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). This position is temporary and will end by June 30.  NICE provides small, personalized classes to immigrant English Learners who have limited educational opportunities. The ESOL Training instructor will be leading our beginner classes, which are intensive classes for students with limited or no prior knowledge of the English language. Due to the educational barriers faced by our students as well as the challenges posed by remote learning, we aim to keep a low student to teacher ratio. 

Instruction will be provided in-person, remotely, and/or in a hybrid setting. In addition, the instructor will develop and submit regular lesson logs, write student case notes, provide insight on the existing curriculum and meet professional development requirements. This is a full-time role with availability in the mornings or evenings.

SCHEDULE

Flexible depending on training schedule.  Monday-Friday: 9am-5pm.  Some weekends and evenings.

COMPENSATION

$26/hour

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and deliver daily lesson plans and educational activities for students in ESOL programming participating both in-person and simultaneous remote instruction - approximately 15 hours per week including planning time.
  • Actively maintain a digital classroom using Google Classroom to upload class recordings and assign/provide feedback on class and homework within a timely manner.
  • Administer exams and track results.
  • Monitor students’ educational progress and liaise with staff members; provide feedback and establish educational plans.
  • Complete and submit weekly lesson logs and bimonthly student case notes.
  • Maintain attendance records, ensure accuracy of completion and submit them to program staff.
  • Attend and participate in regular program meetings.
  • Work with the Education Coordinator to integrate technology into class work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • TESOL certificate or other ESOL teacher training equivalent 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience working with multi-level ESOL classes, a plus 
  • Experience working with low-literacy individuals
  • Experience teaching remotely a plus
  • Flexibility in schedule; classes take place during evenings and/or weekends 
  • Ability to develop appropriate, trusting relationships with a predominantly Spanish-speaking community of immigrant workers 
  • Strong social justice analysis, particularly around immigration, class/labor, gender, and race 
  • Experience working with immigrant communities or other vulnerable individuals
  • Experience managing cases with vulnerable individuals, a plus 
  • Knowledge of computer operations (including but not limited to, Google Apps, Microsoft Office, zoom, google classroom, etc.)
  • Administrative and organizational skills necessary to carry out job description responsibilities 
  • Stable internet connection and adequate technology to teach remote classes.
